Backpacker Magazine Names Kent Ebersole Publisher and Charina Lumley Marketing Director

El Segundo, CA (May 30, 2007) -- Backpacker magazine (www.backpacker.com) today named Kent Ebersole as publisher and Charina Lumley as marketing director. Backpacker was recently acquired from Rodale by Active Interest Media, Inc. (AIM), the consumer enthusiast media company whose portfolio includes magazines, consumer shows, books, and websites.

"Both Kent and Charina are very familiar with Backpacker having been part of the previous leadership team serving as ad director and marketing director at Rodale for a combined 13 years," says Andrew Clurman, AIM's chief operating officer. "Working in tandem with Editor Jon Dorn, Kent and Charina led Backpacker to record profitability while introducing signature programs such as Adventures NYC, the Get Out More national tour and the Under the Stars events. We are thrilled to have them back on board."

Prior to Backpacker, Ebersole was Northwest sales director for Juno.com, and Eastern sales manager for Scuba Diving magazine. After leaving Backpacker in 2006, Ebersole served as a consultant to leading outdoor brands, including Trimble Navigation, Probar, and the Western Rivers Conservancy.

Lumley previously held positions as national promotion manager for Hearst's O, The Oprah Magazine; marketing manager for Rodale's Men's Health magazine; and marketing manager for Hachette's Home and Metropolitan Home magazines. She was most recently a brand/marketing consultant for Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia.

Founded in 1973, Backpacker provides the most engaging and trusted information about backcountry adventure in North America. It is the leading backpacking magazine in the country, with a circulation rate base of 340,000.
