Active Interest Media Financial Analyst

Job Description
As part of the Corporate Finance team, the Business Manager position will play a key role in driving the budget preparation, re-forecast, and review process for multiple business groups. The role involves providing business and operational analysis support to local group management, evaluating the financial feasibility of existing and new business initiatives, and proactively engaged in controlling overhead expenditures. The Business Manager will also serve as the key liaison between other support departments across the company in terms of information flow, reconciliation, research, and ad hoc analysis. This role will report to our Director of Finance and will be based in Boulder, Colorado.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for annual operating budget and re-forecast process across mulltiple business groups
  • Assist with monthly accrual process and provide budget-to-actual variance analysis with commentary
  • Play key role in commission planning, target development, and monthly reporting
  • Monitor monthly overhead costs and identify key trends that pose a risk to group forecast
  • Partner with sales, marketing, production, and circulation departments to monitor budgets and suggest cost-saving measures
  • Review custom circulation and distribution models to ensure forecast accuracy while cross-checking book sizes and print orders
  • Help drive finance department initiatives and support continuous efforts in operational efficiency
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses as requested from group and executive management

Knowledge/Skills:

  • 5 to 7 years of related experience preferably in the Publishing or Media industry
  • Highly skilled in budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling
  • Knowledge of key accounting principles and practices
  • Ability to partner with local management while keeping finance department directives top of mind
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills with experience working with people at all levels of an organization
  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills and ability to remain focused on core responsibilities
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work remotely with indirect supervision
  • Strong business acumen and experience in startup operations a plus
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with MAS and FRX preferred

Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Finance or Accounting required
  • MBA or CPA designation preferred

Equine Network Digital Marketing Designer

Job Description
The Equine Network, part of Active Interest Media, has an immediate opening for a Digital Marketing Designer, located in our Boulder, Colo., office. This person is responsible for creating marketing materials for our sales teams, as well as materials for the promotion of our array of digital products.

The Equine Network is the largest collaboration of horse-related magazines and websites in the industry. Duties would include design of marketing collateral, assistance in program strategy and more. Tasks will include the creation of the following, plus many other exciting opportunities:

  • Digital media kits
  • HTML newsletter templates
  • Sales sheets
  • Sales presentations in PowerPoint
  • Promotional ads for print and web
  • Contest imagery
  • Project wrap-up presentations
  • Social media backgrounds and images
  • Web contest and microsite design

Within the Equine Network, we handle projects for high-profile clients and events; the thought and planning required for execution is paramount. Our products cover all aspects of the horse industry, from English and Western markets to stable management and veterinary business. We also run the most active horse classified site in the industry, Equine.com. All of these assets required marketing materials, and the person in this role would be instrumental in creating them.

To qualify, the candidate must have a high attention to detail, be extremely organized, extensive knowledge of the horse industry and a background in design and marketing. A degree in marketing or design is preferred. Knowledge of Photoshop or InDesign, HTML, PowerPoint Xcel, Word, Outlook, and web applications is essential. Experience with digital magazines is a plus. This person will work out of the Boulder office.
